As a Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner with many years of experience, I greatly emphasize picking the right gi for my daily training and competitions. I’ve worn countless gis over the years, with some being better than others. From the vintage old-school Atama gi to the legendary Tatami Estilo 5.0 up to Kingz Balistico, I have had many great gis throughout my career, and most are very special to me.
A few months ago, I came across the Hayabusa Goorudo 3.0, which has quickly become one of my favorites. I have known about the Goorudo series for some time now and have always wanted to test it. In this article, I will talk about the Hayabusa Goorudo 3.0 and go over the pros and cons of this gi!
Price: $$$$$
Jacket Material: 550 gsm Gold Weave
Pants Material: 12oz twill cotton
Durability: Reinforced stitching throughout stress areas
What I like: The perfect mix of durability and comfort
What I don’t: Heavier than regular BJJ gis.
The Guru’s Rating: 8 out of 10
Unique Gold Weave Material
The Hayabusa Goorudo V3 boasts a unique and high-quality cotton jacket made of 550 gsm gold weave material. In terms of weave material, the gold weave is a blend of cotton and polyester and falls between the single and double weave. Gold weave is unique because it is lighter than double weave, but on the other side, it is more durable than a single weave. Due to this, gold weave gis are a great mix of durability and comfort and are great for everyday use.
After wearing the Hayabusa Goorudo gi for over a month, I can see that the Hayabusa brand has put a lot of effort into this gi. The Goorudo V3 is excellent for daily training and withstands even the toughest rolls. Although the Goorudo V3 has a 550 gsm jacket, because of the gold weave material, it feels like a regular 450 gsm jacket, which is ideal for jiu-jitsu. I think this material is very high-quality and will last me a long time, so I hope to wear it for years! Additionally, this material feels quite good to the skin, and although the gi has shrunk a bit since I bought it, it’s not anything drastic or unusual.
The Goorudo V3 also features regular 12 oz twill cotton pants, which are a bit heavier but seem to be incredibly strong and durable.
Excellent Fit and Stylistic Look
Another great feature of the Goorudo V3 is that it fits pretty well to the body. I am not a fan of baggy gis, and I don’t like gis that give my opponent too much material to grip. Being 6’1 and 190 lbs, the A2 was an excellent choice for me. The gi fits so well that I could easily say that Hayabusa tailored it for me. There is no excess material that my opponents can grab, and it looks fantastic.
On top of that, the Hayabusa Goorudo V3 has some interesting embroidered details throughout the whole gi. The lapel, both thighs, upper back, and lower back all have details featuring the Hayabusa falcon and traditional kanji writing. The kanji writings on this gi indicate courage, strength, pride, and respect, giving it a very special touch.
The gi also comes in four colors: white, black, gray, and blue. Each version has different details, such as white/gray details on the blue gi, red/white details on the black gi, black/gray details on the white gi, and white details on the gray gi. Overall, the Hayabusa Goorudo V3 is a very stylish gi that fits pretty well to the body and will surely make you stand out on the mats.
Reinforced Stitching Throughout Stress Areas
As someone who trains daily, it is not uncommon for my gis to rip apart or wear out after a few months. For this reason, I always try to buy gis with reinforced stitching, as it will make the gi last longer and survive day-to-day training. The Hayabusa Goorudo V3 has reinforced stitching throughout all stress areas, such as knees, crotch, and cuffs. With this added durability, the gi will undoubtedly last longer and withstand harsh training sessions.
One thing that I like the most is the added reinforcements on the knees. When training, the area around the knees is usually the first to be torn apart. However, with this added reinforcement, I see it lasting much longer than on some other gis.
What I Like
Here are some things that I like about the Hayabusa Goorudo V3:
- Perfect mix of durability and comfort
- Great fit and stylistic look
- IBJJF legal
- Reinforced stitching
What I Don’t Like
Here are some key points that I would like to change about this gi:
- Due to the premium gold weave material, this gi is a bit more expensive than its competitors
- Has a tendency to shrink after wearing it for some time
- No added gi bag
- It is a heavier gi
