The Best Muay Thai Training Pads (2020)

Anyone who has trained authentic Muay Thai knows how essential Thai pads are for Muay Thai training. Even MMA fighters are starting to incorporate Thai pads into their training sessions after realizing how great they are for striking. Most MMA gyms have a supply of Thai pads that you can use, but sometimes they don’t offer them which means you’ll have to go out and purchase them yourself. Many people often buy an extra set of Thai pads or Boxing mitts to train outside of the gym with.

When it comes to selecting the right set of Muay Thai pads, it’s always best to choose something that fits your style of training and is made of the highest quality. There are many different sizes and styles of Thai pads to choose from, we’re here to assist you in selecting the very best for your specific type of training. I know how stressful shopping online can be, especially if you’re not accustomed to all of the different types of products available.

I actually reviewed a few pairs of Thai pads on my Ultimate Muay Thai gear & equipment buyer’s guide, I highly recommend checking that out if you’re looking for quality Muay Thai gear. However if you’re just in the market for Thai pads, stay put. This article isn’t only a list of the best Muay Thai pads available online today, it’s also a comprehensive guide that gives you every pro and con that comes along with owning a certain pair of Thai pads.

The Best Thai Pads for Muay Thai and MMA

Luckily for you, we went through each and every Thai pad available online today and have listed the best of the best. These Thai pads are all suitable for both beginner and professional level Muay Thai, MMA, and Kickboxing training.

Fairtex Muay Thai Pads

Fairtex Muay Thai Pads

Pros:
– Durable double stitching
– Two Hook & Loop straps for a secure fit
– High quality leather construct

Cons:
– Adjustable straps are short

The Fairtex Muay Thai pads are my favorite Thai pads hands down. The only negative I can think of when highlighting these Thai pads are that they’re expensive, however they are well worth every single penny. If you’ve ever used cheap Thai pads then you know you won’t get that proper “smack” that you get from high quality Thai pads. Fairtex makes some of the best Muay Thai equipment and gear known to man.

The different between these kick pads and other competitors is mostly at the quality level. The reinforced stitching is hand crafted in Thailand and absolutely beautiful. The material is made of high quality premium leather, there is so much love put into each Thai pad through master craftsmanship in Thailand (The home of Muay Thai). If you can afford the extra price of these Thai pads I say go for it, you won’t regret it.

Combat Sports Thai Pads

Pros:
– Durable double stitching
– Two Hook & Loop straps for a secure fit
– High quality leather construct

Cons:
– Adjustable straps are short

These Combat Sports Thai pads are the perfect balance of durability and comfortability. They are super lightweight (which I personally love) and seem to hold up very well even after long training sessions. For the price they are absolutely outstanding, one of the best value buys online today.

The Combat Sports Thai pads have excellent shock absorption and are very well built. These Thai pads are great because they are inexpensive and can be bought in bulk if you teach Muay Thai classes and want durable equipment that will last. I believe Combat Sports are an up and coming brand that people are quickly falling in love with because of the quality of equipment is very consistent.

Meister XP2 Thai Pads

Meister XP2 Thai Pads

Pros:
– Can buy a single, or as a pair
– Hand made durable leather construct
– Ultra padded forearm straps

Cons:
– Expensive Thai pads

The Meister XP2 was designed for professional fighters and gym warriors alike. Constructed from the most choice hides, these pads are designed to take a beating and keep on working. The slightly curved design helps keep strikes centered and contours to the forearm for a flawless fit. A reinforced 4.5″ power center provides additional padding where you need it most.

Two padded forearm straps on the back of the pads allow for a custom fit and can be adjusted to fit any arm size. Solid leather handles provide a stable grip that won’t bend or shift. Weighing in at just over 2lb each, Meister XP2 Professional Curved Thai Pads are versatile enough for nearly any striking drill. I would compare these Thai pads to the Fairtex model, both are superior quality compared to the rest on this list.

Contender Fight Sports Thai Pads

Contender Fight Sports Thai Pads

Pros:
– Very affordable Thai pads
– Two hook & loop straps
– Clean vinyl construct

Cons:
– Non curved Thai Pads

The Contender Fight Sports Thai pads are the cheapest and most affordable Thai pads on this list. They are great for beginners who are just starting Muay Thai or MMA training. They are made of durable and easy to clean vinyl construction built to uphold against hard hits. Whether you’re training at home or at the gym, these Thai pads will definitely get the job done. They aren’t the most durable Thai pads in the world, but they’re great for beginners.

Many people complain about them smelling, I recommend airing these Thai pads out regularly, especially to get rid of that “new product” smell. These are cheap Thai pads, however they don’t have much curve to them like traditional Thai pads which is a qualm of mine. I personally do not own these Thai pads, however I many training partners who use them everyday and seem to absolutely love them, to each his own I guess.

Venum Giant Thai Pads

Venum Giant Thai Pads

Pros:
– Premium skintex leather
– Multiple density foam
– Designed in Thailand

Cons:
– Expensive Thai pads

The Venum Giant Kick Pads are an awesome pair of Thai pads that are made directly in Thailand. Featuring padded straps and forearm support, they Thai pads are great for both the fighter and the trainer. These Thai pads include multi-layered density foam padding which are able to absorb even the hardest kicks, knees and elbow strikes.

I love these Thai pads because they are slightly bigger than other pairs. They provide extra arm padding protection and are reinforced with ultra resistant laces. Venum is a brand known for their flashy style, however they didn’t go crazy with these Thai pads. They come in two different style designs (black on black or white on black), both have a simple yet elegant design that is something Venum isn’t completely used to.

So Which Muay Thai Pads Should I Get?

This is a good question to ask, however the answer is different for everyone. It really depends on what exactly you’re looking for from a piece of training equipment. If you want a durable pair of Thai pads that have been tested throughout time as the very best, then I highly recommend the Fairtex Muay Thai Pads. If you want a pair of Thai pads that are much more affordable but still a great value, then I highly recommend buying the Combat Sports Thai pads. Although I feel like every single Thai pad on this list will get the job done and have a long life, please comment below and let me know which Thai pad you decided on!
